Miriam Lowi is Professor of Comparative and Middle East Politics at The College of New Jersey. She is the author of “Water and Power: the Politics of a Scarce Resource in the Jordan River Basin” (Cambridge U. Press, 1995) and “Oil Wealth and the Poverty of Politics: Algeria Compared” (Cambridge U. Press, 2009), and editor of “Environment and Security: Discourses and Practices” (Palgrave, 2000). For her current research on Gulf monarchies, she was named “Carnegie Scholar.” In addition to her scholarship, Miriam Lowi is Chair of the MENA wing of the Committee on Academic Freedom (CAF – MESA); she is on the editorial board of the Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP).
