Charles Harb, Professor of Social Psychology, American University of Beirut

Charles Harb is Professor of Social and Political Psychology and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He has conducted extensive empirical research on intergroup dynamics, social cohesion and collective action in the Arab region.

This visit and lecture is a result of a new faculty exchange program, part of a collaborative initiative between the Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice at Princeton University and the American University of Beirut, begun four years ago with funding from the Bobst Foundation and expanded recently through a bequest from the late Mrs. Mamdouha S. Bobst. This unique collaboration seeks to leverage both institutions’ intellectual capital and mutual interests in order to raise awareness about the politics of transformation in MENA. The Bobst Center and AUB’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (AUB IFI) propose to study the manifold  challenges  that confront  Arab  societies as they attempt to regain (or attain) social justice and move their countries along a comprehensive economic and democratic reform trajectory. Future projects supported by this collaborative initiative will include interdisciplinary annual workshops, conferences and research support for scholars addressing these issues.
