Alparslan Tuncay joined the AUB Economics Department as an assistant professor in 2019. He graduated from Bilkent University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 2009, and from Sabanci University with a M.A. in Economics in 2011. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from The University of Chicago in 2019 with a thesis which links the changing marriage patterns in the United States since the 1970s with the increasing income inequality. He argues that rising marriage age led to more frequent marriages between individuals in similar income groups, which in turn increased the income inequality substantially. His research mainly focuses on Applied Macroeconomics with a keen interest on economics of inequality and labor market.
